Become A Member

Types of Membership


Full membership is open to individuals who:

  • Are paid employees at a Women’s Domestic Violence Court Advocacy Service;
  • Support the purpose, aims and guiding principles of the association; and
  • Are nominated and approved by the Board of the association.

 

Associate membership is open to individuals that:

  • Are paid employees or volunteers of a women’s specialist service* providing services to women 
and their children who have experienced domestic, family and sexual violence;
  • Support the purpose, objectives and guiding principles of the association; and
  • Are nominated and approved by the Board of the association.

 

Membership can be applied for by a women's specialist service on behalf of their workers or alternatively by individual workers in their own right. Each worker becomes a member of the association.

Full members have voting rights, while associate members do not.

Definitions

*A women's specialist service means “a service managed and operated by women for women and their children which: 


(a) is underpinned by a rights-based approach informed by an understanding of the gendered nature of the violence, its causes and consequences;


(b)  empowers survivors/ victims by adopting a client-centred approach, enabling self- determination, choice and control over processes; 


(c)  places women and their children’s safety, needs and interests at the centre of all decisions;

(d) remains accountable to victims/ survivors and works to ensure perpetrators are held accountable for their choice to use violence;

(e) is culturally-sensitive, holistic and accessible to diverse groups of women and their children.”
