Report on Facebook and Women’s Safety

Women’s Safety NSW conducted a state-wide survey of our members including frontline domestic and family violence specialists as well as victim-survivors of domestic and family violence.

Our survey of frontline domestic and family violence specialists and those with lived experience of domestic and sexual violence provided valuable insight into the relationship between Facebook and victim-survivors. This survey was open for responses for 15 days from 19 May 2021 to 3 June 2021. Women’s Safety NSW received 15 responses from a number of frontline domestic and family violence specialists as well as victim-survivors and these responses provided valuable insight into the specific issues facing victim-survivors on Facebook. Of these, 40% (N = 6/15) identified as frontline domestic and family violence specialist workers and 80% (N = 12/15) identified as victim-survivors. We note that we allowed respondents to select both options, acknowledging there is often crossover in this regard.
