Sydney news: Man charged with burning down Liverpool Council Chambers, domestic violence spikes as coronavirus lockdown lifts

Domestic violence spikes as lockdown lifts.

Around half of those surveyed by Women’s Safety NSW (WSNSW) said there had been an increase in demand for help since restrictions eased.

Hayley Foster from WSNSW said there had been a renewed threat to women’s safety as some attempted to leave violent situations.

“How we’ve seen that manifest is in more extreme forms of violence, more threats on people’s lives as well as the lives of children and pets … more extreme physical and sexual assaults,” she said.
