Alcohol delivery loophole closed

Community groups have welcomed new legislation passed by the NSW Government to hold alcohol delivery companies to a higher standard.

The new laws make it mandatory for online alcohol sellers to check they are not selling illegally to those under 18.

“Nobody should be able to sell alcohol to children but until today there were no requirements to verify a person’s age before they click the buy button,” the CEO of the Foundation for Alcohol Research and Education said.

Women’s Safety NSW CEO Hayley Foster said more needed to be done though.

“Unattended delivery and rapid deliveries within two hours are still able to be made up until midnight and are putting our children and families at risk of harm.”
